Which Restaurants are Known as the Best in Calgary?

As culinary tastes shift, new restaurants open, and chefs move from restaurant to restaurant, it is great to know which restaurants are known to be the best of the best. In Calgary, there is a list of 10 top restaurants as selected by a panel of judges. These restaurants were voted best in Calgary for 2015, and have a wide array of types of food and atmosphere.

Italian

Il Sogno is a wonderful Italian restaurant with ambiance to match its roots, as it is based in old world Italian cooking and located in an historic building in Calgary. It has been in business for approximately 15 years, earning its reputation for consistently great food.

French

Avec Bistro is a French restaurant that boasts a chef from the Cordon Bleu. The food is always delicious and presented in an impeccable manner. Blink is a restaurant with a French inspired menu and uses seasonal local and regional ingredients.

Asian

Raw Bar by Duncan Ly is a well-regarded modern Asian fusion restaurant, and blends bold flavors to create unique dishes, including one that includes pairing a whole squid with duck. Anju is a Korean restaurant that serves traditional Korean dishes and offers some modern takes on traditional Korean cuisine.

These contemporary restaurants have varied menus, many of which feature farm-to-table selections. The farm-to-table movement is based on the principles of using local and seasonal food that can be prepared when fresh, using less resources to transport and store it.

Rouge uses seasonal ingredients from its own gardens. River Café is touted as being Calgary’s pioneering restaurant in the farm-to-table movement. It has beautiful views and a warm inviting ambiance.

Model Milk is also a restaurant featuring seasonal ingredients. It has a menu where traditional comfort food dishes are somehow modified to give them a contemporary edge. Lastly, Notable is just that. It is noted for its delicious food that is contemporary, while maintaining classic sophistication. The ambiance is much like its food in that it is contemporary, yet still warm and inviting.
