Where to store your luxury car collection

It’s not unusual for Calgary luxury homes to have a triple-car garage but that’s often not enough room to tinker with vintage vehicles, posh cars and collector motorcycles.

Where to “Stash” your collection

The Stash is a new luxury garage with storage and service bays for luxury vehicles, located between Calgary and Okotoks on Highway 2A.  It’s handy for those living in the south part of Calgary, Heritage Pointe and De Winton.

The Stash offers luxury car owners 38 condominium-style bays, each just over 1,200 square-feet which is large enough for six vehicles.  Bays are available for purchase at quarter of a million dollars each, with monthly condo fees in the $150 range.   Washrooms and a mezzanine are available to owners, for an extra charge.

Coming soon – The Vaults

The popularity of privately-owned off-site luxury garages is growing, with another facility planned for 2016 in Calgary’s North East called The Vaults.

The Vaults in North East Calgary should have 43 units available for purchase.  These units will be larger at 1,650 square feet in size, including a mezzanine area, with a higher price tag and higher monthly fees.  Bays are expected to be $329,000 and condo fees starting at $165 a month.  That would include an owner’s clubhouse and a car wash facility.  The Vaults will be at 1750 – 120 Ave NE.

Both of these facilities offer individual gas lines and water. Owners are responsible for their own bills, just as they would in a residential condo.  At The Stash, floors are heated with 100 and 220-amp service to each bay. There is roughed-in plumbing for a three-piece bathroom.  Doorways are three feet wide, with a 16 foot wide by 14 foot high bay door with a chain hoist.

Owners with more than six vehicles can purchase more than one bay.  The wall between each bay can be removed.

The ideal vehicle storage

With off-site luxury garages opening up around Calgary, the door is open for car collectors to make lifestyle choices such as selling their home in favour of moving into a luxury condo downtown.  This means homeowners can downsize their home but not their car collection or their hobby.  Condo owners have limited options when it comes to RV, ATV or boat storage.  An off-site facility such as this is a great benefit.

Security is important at both The Stash and The Vaults.  Owners must enter the gated facilities with a swipe card and there is 24-hour a day video surveillance. The grounds are paved and landscaped.

The Dens at Springbank was the first auto-condo to be offered to luxury vehicle collectors in the Calgary area.  Located west of Calgary, The Dens were advertised as a sanctuary where vehicle enthusiasts could set up a private show room or install hoists so they could work on their vehicles in comfort and privacy, any time of day.

Off-site luxury car storage and maintenance facilities are popular in the Phoenix area and in Florida. It gives automotive buffs the chance to network and socialize with each other.
