Downtown Calgary is the place to be whether it’s a night on the town or for weekend enjoyment. The Calgary Tower is a cool Observation Tower at 9th Avenue overlooking the city while the Devonian Gardens is the perfect botanical garden to help you be in touch with nature.

The Bow is the tallest building in Canada and Stephen Avenue is the place to go to see the steel “Trees” sculptures. Here is a look at how you could spend your day in downtown Calgary and see all the top attractions.

Where to begin

Head over to Stephen Avenue Walk at 8th Avenue SW where you’ll find great places to grab breakfast and coffee. Then make your way to the patisserie in Art Central where there are galleries, boutiques and the work of local artisans. That is located at 205 – 100 7th Avenue SW and once you’ve had your fill, head over to Macleod Trail and 7th Avenue SE where the Old City Hall sits. It’s a historic building that’s been restored to its original beauty.

From there, check out Olympic Plaza at 222 8th Avenue SE where people gather for skating and wading in the pool. As you head further down Stephen Avenue, you’ll pass more boutiques and buskers where live performances take place along the way. People like to enjoy patio season down there.

Inside Baker’s Hall you’ll find Calgary Eaton Centre, CORE/TD Square and Scotia Centre for designer shopping. Glenbow Museum is located at 130 9th Avenue SE where you can see traveling exhibits and permanent collections with information on Alberta’s history.

Don’t miss these attractions

From there, check out the Calgary Tower at 101 9th Avenue SW where you’ll experience Western Canada’s tallest observation point. You’ll see the mountains and the city and they even have a glass floor to let you look 525 feet down. Spend your dinner at Alberta Beef, one of the local restaurants downtown and then watch a performance at Arts Commons at 205 8th Avenue SE.

These are some of the top attractions in Calgary’s downtown.
